3rd and 4th Engineers play a key role in the engine department, responsible for standing engine room watch, monitoring equipment, and maintaining safe operations. Duties include operating and maintaining machinery, assisting with planned maintenance (PMS), and supporting senior engineers during repairs of systems like pumps, compressors, and safety equipment. The 3rd and 4th Engineers ensure proper functioning of fire-fighting systems, emergency bilge, and automation equipment, while maintaining accurate records and logs. They also participate in bunkering operations, drills, and emergency response. Adhering strictly to safety, environmental, and health protocols, the 3rd Engineer works under the Chief Engineer’s orders and promotes a strong onboard safety culture.
Qualifications
- STCW III/1 Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch (OICEW) license is mandatory.
- Completion of MES training and corporate-required career path training.
- Valid STCW certificates (Basic Safety Training, Advanced Fire Fighting) and a valid medical certificate (ENG1 or equivalent).
- Prior watchkeeping experience, preferably on cruise or passenger ships.
- Basic knowledge of engine maintenance procedures and planned maintenance systems.
- Familiarity with environmental and safety standards (e.g., MARPOL, SOLAS).
- Understanding of diesel engines, pumps, purifiers, and auxiliary shipboard systems.
- Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in English; ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- Flexible, safety-conscious, and able to work under pressure.
