The Chief Steward is responsible for supervising and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in all galley and buffet areas, ensuring full compliance with USPH, HACCP, and environmental standards. Duties include scheduling, training, and overseeing galley utility staff; implementing cleaning routines; ensuring proper use and maintenance of dishwashing equipment and cleaning materials; and supervising waste segregation. The Chief Steward coordinates with chefs and provisioning teams during supply loading and special events, maintains inventory of cleaning supplies, reports maintenance issues, and ensures safe working conditions. Strong leadership, communication, and organization are essential to support a clean, efficient, and guest-focused food operation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years’ experience as a Kitchen/Chief Steward or in a similar role, preferably within a premium brand or cruise line.
  • Prior shipboard experience is required, with strong knowledge of USPH and HACCP regulations.
  • Successful completion of Food Handler Examination.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate multicultural teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience as a Galley Utility or GPA with solid knowledge of galley operations.
  • Strong English communication skills (written and verbal) for effective coordination and documentation.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, databases); strong administrative skills preferred.
  • Guest-focused, professional appearance, positive attitude, and excellent hygiene standards.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
