A Deck Fitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of deck fittings and equipment, ensuring all hardware—such as railings, hatches, and valves—is secure and compliant with safety standards. The role involves skilled welding (TIG, MIG), steel fabrication, lathe work, sheet metal tasks, and pipe fitting. Regular inspections are conducted to detect and resolve equipment issues. The Deck Fitter also supports inventory management by maintaining spare parts and tools. Close collaboration with Deck and Engineering teams is essential, along with assisting in tendering operations. Adherence to all safety procedures is critical to maintaining a secure working environment onboard.

Qualifications

  • Valid STCW certification (mandatory for all seafarers).
  • ASE Certification (A-III/5) in marine engineering preferred.
  • Strong mechanical skills, including hydraulics, engine repair, and system troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in welding techniques (TIG and MIG) and steel fabrication.
  • Previous experience in a similar role on vessels, especially with deck equipment maintenance.
  • Knowledge of maritime safety regulations, preventive maintenance, and quality standard.
  • Skilled in inventory and spare parts management.
  • Fluent in English with strong communication skills.
  • Adaptable, reliable, and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Relevant technical qualifications in mechanical fitting or marine engineering preferred.
