The Electrical Officer on a cruise ship is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all electrical, electronic, automation, and refrigeration systems on board. Their duties include managing power generation and distribution systems, lighting, communication, navigation, propulsion, and safety systems. They troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues, perform routine and emergency maintenance, and ensure full compliance with safety regulations. The Electrical Officer also assists in engine room operations, supervises and trains junior electrical staff, manages inventory of electrical parts, and coordinates with other departments such as hotel and galley services to support efficient shipboard operations and overall vessel functionality.

Qualifications

  • Technical Education:
    Degree or diploma in Electrical, Electronics, or related Engineering fields.
    Mandatory Certifications: STCW III/6 Electro-Technical Officer certificate with High Voltage training and all required STCW certificates.
  • Cruise Ship Experience:
    Several years of experience as an Electro-Technical Officer, ideally in a similar rank on cruise ships.
  • Marine Electrical Knowledge:
    Familiarity with marine electrical systems and equipment, including reading technical drawings and manuals.
  • Problem-Solving Skills:
    Ability to troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues swiftly and effectively.
  • Communication & Teamwork:
    Strong English language proficiency, good interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Physical Fitness & Safety:
    Fit for shipboard duties, emergency drills, and committed to safety and compliance procedures.
