An Electrician on board a cruise ship is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all low and medium-voltage electrical systems across accommodation, engine, and hotel areas. Duties include maintaining electrical machinery, power distribution systems, drive and control systems, lighting, elevators, galley and laundry equipment, and mobile electrical devices. They install new components, diagnose and repair faults, and ensure all systems comply with safety, environmental, and ISM regulations. Electricians support emergency responses, follow Planned Maintenance System (PMS) tasks, assist with inventory counts, and contribute to a strong onboard safety culture by following HESS and company health protocols.

Qualifications

  • Professional electrical qualification or diploma/degree in electrical engineering.
  • Valid STCW III/7 (ETR) Certificate and ability to obtain Italian Endorsement.
  • High Voltage (HVOL) and Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) training preferred.
  • Proven experience in marine electrical systems, installation, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with shipboard systems such as switchboards, generators, fire alarms, fire/sliding doors, PA systems, watertight doors, and open deck systems.
  • Experience with galley and laundry machinery (e.g., ovens, fryers, dishwashers, washers, dryers, ironers).
  • Elevator maintenance experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of maritime safety regulations and emergency procedures.
