The First Engineer is responsible for overseeing engine room operations, performing watch duties as Team Leader, and ensuring the maintenance and smooth functioning of all machinery and systems. Key responsibilities include organizing work routines, assigning tasks for planned and breakdown maintenance, and maintaining cleanliness in technical areas. They carry out equipment checks and updates using the Planned Maintenance System (PMS), manage documentation and purchasing routines in Amos-Win, and maintain emergency and damage control equipment. The First Engineer ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and company regulations, acting according to the Chief Engineer’s orders while promoting a strong onboard health and safety culture.
Qualifications
- Chief Engineer’s license (STCW III/2, unlimited) and valid STCW certifications are mandatory.
- Degree in Marine Engineering or related field preferred.
- Minimum one year as Watchkeeping Engineer or Chief Engineer on other vessel types.
- Experience with diesel-electric propulsion systems is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with 4-stroke engine maintenance and marine automation systems (e.g., Siemens, Valmarine).
- Proficient in PMS software such as InfoSHIP or AMOS.
- MES training and corporate-required training completion.
- Strong technical knowledge of propulsion, electrical, HVAC, and auxiliary systems.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Fluent in English and committed to safety, adaptability, and team collaboration.
