Fireman / Fire Patrol

The Fireman / Fire Patrol is responsible for maintaining and monitoring the ship’s fire safety systems and equipment, including daily inspections, testing, and maintenance of extinguishers, hoses, alarms, and related apparatus. They conduct regular fire patrol rounds and assist in safety system checks such as smoke detectors. Firemen support the Chief Fireman with supervision during port operations and assist in tender services if required. They actively participate in fire prevention by inspecting high-risk areas, enforcing safety procedures, and ensuring compliance with SOLAS and STCW regulations. Firemen also take part in emergency response drills, maintain detailed records, and promote a strong onboard safety culture through teamwork and communication.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Marine Transportation or completion of vocational training/fire academy preferred.
  • Previous firefighting experience ashore or at sea is highly valued.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime fire safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Proficient in the use, operation, and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
  • Physically fit and able to handle high-stress and physically demanding situations.
  • Excellent situational awareness and ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills for coordination with crew and during emergencies.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills essential for safe and efficient operations.
  • Ability to maintain firefighting gear and safety equipment to professional standards.
