Lifeguards are responsible for the safety and supervision of all aquatic and recreational areas onboard. They monitor swimming pools, water slides, and related facilities, ensuring guests follow safety rules and regulations. Lifeguards must respond swiftly to emergencies, performing rescues and administering first aid, CPR, or oxygen as needed. They assist in opening, closing, and maintaining recreation areas, ensuring equipment and supplies are clean, stocked, and functional. Lifeguards interact with guests professionally, offering directions and assistance while promoting a safe environment. They also support shore excursions and sports activities, maintain radio communication with ship staff, and participate in ongoing safety and rescue training.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 months recent experience as a lifeguard in a high-volume pool setting; open water experience is a plus.
  • Strong swimming ability and physical fitness, including treading water and object retrieval from depth.
  • Certified in Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid from a recognized organization (e.g., Red Cross, RLSS).
  • Must pass a swim test, vision screening (20/25 vision or better), and maintain certifications throughout the contract.
  • STCW Basic Safety Training preferred or required depending on cruise line.
  • Excellent observational skills to monitor assigned zones and respond to distress signals.
  • Comfortable working in teams and maintaining professional, guest-focused communication.
  • Previous experience with boats, snorkeling, or recreational equipment is advantageous.
