The Motorman and Oiler support safe and efficient engine room operations by assisting with maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of main engines, diesel generators, boilers, pumps, and auxiliary machinery. Duties include cleaning, chipping, painting, checking fuel injection systems, maintaining filters, valves, and operating tools in the motorman workshop. The role also involves participating in bunkering and storing operations, monitoring fuel and control mechanisms, assisting with daily work planning, and supporting engine watch as required. Familiarity with engine room layouts, tools, safety, firefighting equipment, and proper use of PPE is essential. Active participation in drills and adherence to all HESS and safety protocols is mandatory.
Qualifications
- Minimum one year of experience as Motorman or Oiler on large cruise vessels, preferably with medium-speed diesel engines.
- Valid Motorman’s certificate as per STCW Reg. III/5.
- Completed apprenticeship as Ship’s Mechanic or equivalent.
- Solid understanding of main and auxiliary engine systems, fuel systems, and oil transfer operations.
- Skilled in operating and maintaining pumps, valves, hoists, and lifting equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical safety, isolation procedures, and onboard voltage systems.
- Proficient in maintenance of main engines and engine room machinery.
- Strong command of spoken and written English with clear radio communication.
- Keen attention to detail, safety awareness, and proper use of PPE.
