The Public Health Officer onboard is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of public health compliance, ensuring the highest standards are maintained across departments. Key duties include managing disease surveillance and prevention, food and water safety, recreational water facility hygiene, integrated pest management, and infection control protocols. The officer conducts regular audits, coordinates outbreak response plans, supervises sanitation procedures, ensures PPE usage, and supports cross-departmental health measures. They deliver targeted training, engage in continuous crew education, and liaise with both onboard and shoreside leadership. The role also involves collaborating with external auditors and vendors, managing public health-related inventory, and ensuring full adherence to company protocols and international regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Biological Sciences, or a related field required.
  • Minimum 4–5 years of experience in public health, infection prevention/control, and vessel sanitation on cruise ships.
  • Strong knowledge in key areas: food safety, potable/recreational water safety, IPM, sanitation, microbiology, housekeeping, waste management, and outbreak coordination.
  • Certifications in USPH Vessel Sanitation, SHIPSAN, IPM, and Infection Control preferred.
  • Shipboard experience essential; cruise industry background highly preferred.
  • Effective leader with excellent training, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English; other languages an advantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; SeaCare platform experience preferred.
  • Able to thrive in fast-paced, multicultural environments with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
