The Upholsterer is responsible for all upholstery repair and maintenance work onboard, including carpets, curtains, canvas, and fabric in furniture, while supporting the carpenter team as needed. Duties include managing job orders, maintaining inventory, checking material deliveries for quality and quantity, and ensuring proper storage of all supplies. The role requires maintaining a clean and safe workshop, following safety and environmental policies, and participating in emergency drills. The Upholsterer must work as part of a team, uphold hygiene and grooming standards, support training of subordinates, and follow ship procedures and emergency protocols. Additional tasks may be assigned by the Housekeeper.
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of upholstery experience, preferably on a large cruise vessel.
- Proficient in all upholstery tasks, including carpet laying.
- Formal training in upholstery techniques preferred.
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Flexible and adaptable in daily tasks.
- Physically fit with stamina for manual work and material handling.
- High attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- STCW Basic Safety Training may be required.
- Proficiency in English for onboard communication.
