The Water and Pool Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of all recreational water facilities and potable water systems onboard, assisted by the Assistant Water and Pool Operator. Key duties include halogenation, pH control, microbiological monitoring, and bunkering supervision to ensure compliance with health and safety standards. The operator manages chemical treatment and disinfection procedures, coordinates lab testing and corrective actions, and maintains accurate documentation and logs. They oversee equipment maintenance, spare parts ordering, and collaborate with departments such as Housekeeping and the Staff Captain to uphold hygiene standards. Strict adherence to HESS and safety protocols is essential.

Qualifications

  • Completed secondary school education.
  • Trained mechanic or technician in facility management, galley/hotel equipment industries, or on passenger ships.
  • STCW III/5 certification or minimum 36 months of sea service.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Recreational Water Facilities (RWF) technician or in a similar role * Proficient in brazing, plumbing, electronics, and mechanics.
  • Strong chemical knowledge for potable and pool water control.
  • Familiarity with legal water treatment requirements in the U.S., Europe, and other regions.
  • In-depth knowledge of dosing systems and parameter control.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain complex water systems.
